Baked Banana and Apple Pie

This dessert is a family favourite with down to earth flavours. It can be made with store cupboard ingredients and is perfect for your Sunday family lunch. Serves 8.

175g tinned apples, chopped
2 bananas thinly sliced
125ml golden syrup
100ml boiling water
100ml chopped pecan nuts
1 cup self raising flour
1T ground cinnamon
1/2t ground ginger
1/2t ground cloves
100ml brown sugar
100ml coconut
1 cup oil
2 eggs
pinch of salt

Preheat the oven to 180C and grease a 23cm pie dish. Layer the banana and apple at the bottom of the dish.
Dissolve the syrup in the boiling water and pour over the fruit. Sprinkle over the nuts.
To make the batter, whisk the flour, spices, sugar, coconut, oil, salt and eggs together. Pour over the fruit and spread out the batter evenly. Bake at 180C for 35 minutes.
Delicious with vanilla cream or homemade vanilla ice-cream.
