Easy White Sauce Recipe

2T butter
2T flour
1 cup milk
1/2 grated cheese (optional)
salt and pepper (optional)
1t  chopped Italian parsley

Melt the butter in a sauce pan on medium heat. stir in the flour until incorporated into a thick paste. Slowly stir in the milk, a little at a time. Using a whisk, make sure the milk absorbs all the butter and flour each time you add it.This takes a little time, but is worth it for good texture of the sauce. Continue stirring until the sauce starts to thicken. Then add the cheese and stir until it has melted in. Continue stirring until the sauce is the consistency you like. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add parsley. Serve hot.

Tip: when stirring the sauce to thicken use a wooden spoon and make sure you stir the bottom of the pot, as well as the edges of the bottom, to avoid the sauce burning.

Use this recipe for lasagna, add mushrooms for a sauce for steak, or make a chicken potato casserole using left over chicken, pour over this sauce, cover with mashed potato and grated cheese and heat to serve! I made this for my boys to eat whilst we were away and they were staying with their Gran. They loved it and she did too.

For and Adult version, stir in 2T white wine at the end of the cooking process.
